General Theory of Cycle-Dependence of Total pi-Electron Energy
The theoretical treatment of cycle-effects on total pi-electron energy, mainly elaborated by Nenad Trinajstic and his research group, is re-stated in a general and more formal manner. It enables to envisage several other possible ways of measuring the cycle-effects and points at further directions of research.
متن کاملTriplet energies of pi-conjugated polymers.
Using pulse radiolysis and triplet energy transfer has enabled us to measure the triplet energies in a broad range of different pi-conjugated polymers. In all cases we find that the 1 (3)B(u) is of order 0.6 to 1 eV below the 1 (1)B(u), indicative of localized triplet states with strong electron-electron correlation. We also observe that the 1 (1)A(g)-1 (3)B(u) gap decreases linearly as the 1 (...
متن کاملElectron transport through conjugated molecules: when the pi system only tells part of the story.
In molecular transport junctions, current is monitored as a function of the applied voltage for a single molecule assembled between two leads. The transport is modulated by the electronic states of the molecule. For the prototypical delocalized systems, namely, pi-conjugated aromatics, the pi system usually dominates the transport. Herein, we investigate situations where model calculations incl...
متن کاملGroundstate dispersion interaction between pi-conjugated polymers.
The line-dipole approximation is used to investigate the scaling of the groundstate dispersion interaction, EW, between parallel conjugated polymers of length L and transverse separation D. Both a second-order perturbation theory calculation using the Mott-Wannier exciton model of excited states and a semiclassical analysis of distributed dipoles indicate that at L approximately D there is a cr...
متن کاملMultivalency of Sonic hedgehog conjugated to linear polymer chains modulates protein potency.
A potently active multivalent form of the protein Sonic hedgehog (Shh) was produced by bioconjugation of a modified recombinant form of Shh to the linear polymers poly(acrylic acid) (pAAc) and hyaluronic acid (HyA) via a two-step reaction exploiting carboimiide and maleimide chemistry. Efficiency of the conjugation was approximately 75% even at stoichiometric ratios of 30 Shh molecules per line...
